On Thursday, December 1st, Impact Engine hosted a Fall Portfolio Showcase at ContextMedia (hosted by Shradha Agarwal, one of our investors). We gathered for a night of networking with our investors, their families, and several of our portfolio companies across our four funds. The companies shared updates about their progress since joining the Impact Engine community, their plans for 2017 and beyond, and how our network can continue to provide support. Impact Engine I
ThinkCERCA is an online platform designed to empower teachers to personalize literacy instruction across disciplines. ThinkCERCA helps whole school teams differentiate for engaging learning in classrooms of diverse learners. Since joining our first accelerator, they have engaged 102K students at 416 schools in 36 states. On average, students using the platform gained an extra year’s worth of academic growth, equivalent to closing the achievement gap by 264% for low-income students. They are currently growing their team and are looking for key hires, including a Lead Product Designer and Sales Leadership.
Impact Engine III
Infiniteach develops innovative digital apps to to help children with autism build skills, learn and grow. Infiniteach has recently expanded to the B2B market, connecting their digital platform with businesses and museums that want to support autism accessibility within the community. They’ve secured partnerships with the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium and Autism Speaks, and are looking for leads in the travel, retail and healthcare fields.
Prana Diabetes – Prana Diabetes is tackling the growth of diabetes through HabitNu, a scalable, evidence-based diabetes prevention and management program combining education, peer support and state of the art mobile technology. The program enables simple phone-based monitoring and recording of key health parameters while also leveraging a patient’s personal support network. In partnership with the American Diabetes Association and Advocate Heart Institute, Habitnu launched in October as the only active, CDC-recognized program in Chicago. As they continue to expand their Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) in Chicago, Prana Diabetes is seeking introductions to hospitals and health systems.
Sokowatch – Sokowatch provides multinational companies with a data-driven distribution network focused on the informal sector of emerging markets. Through individual agents equipped with proprietary mobile data-collection tools, Sokowatch dramatically increases sales and market coverage for companies in emerging markets. As they continue to expand their efforts in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania and other major African cities, they seek critical mentorship in building a lean six sigma process.
Impact Engine IV
Luna Lights – Luna Lights is an automated lighting system that utilizes cloud-based data analytics to reduce the risk of falling for older adults. Luna Lights consists of an ultra – thin pressure sensor that detects when a user gets out of bed and immediately turns on small, wireless lights around the home. Additionally, a software component collects data regarding the frequency and duration that an adult is out of bed at night and sends a text notification to a caregiver if an older adult is out of bed for an unreasonable amount of time. It also allows caregivers to identify trends in nighttime trips and see which individuals are most at risk for falling. In fall 2016, they have launched their systems in two Chicago-area assisted living facilities and have plans to roll-out more systems in the coming year. They are currently raising money to manage increased inventory, operational growth and the continued development of their analytics platform.
Skill Scout – Skill Scout is an HR services company that brings jobs and candidates to life. Skill Scout turns the transactional nature of online job boards into a transparent, human-centered experience through video jobs postings, social recruiting and hands-on interviews. They’ve partnered with Unilever and Farmer’s Fridge and are currently raising another round of investments to launch their platform and target more SAAS customers.
