CHICAGO, April 19, 2012  Impact Engine is pleased to announce Chuck Templeton has joined the team as managing director. Chuck is a successful serial entrepreneur best known for creating and defining the restaurant reservation space after founding OpenTable in 1998. The online restaurant reservation website has seated over 280 million diners and services more than 25,000 restaurants around the world. OpenTable’s successful IPO (OPEN) NASDAQ in 2009 was a milestone that helped to reopen the public market for tech companies.

Impact Engine is a business accelerator focused on startup and early stage for-profit companies that use business principles to solve social, environmental, and human challenges. Impact Engine will select eight to twelve impact entrepreneurs and their ventures through a competitive process.The selected entrepreneurs will receive $20,000 of upfront seed capital, engagement in a 12-week accelerator lab where participants will receive business strategy and development workshops led by successful social entrepreneurs from across the U.S., mentorship from leading business executives, and access to a network of potential impact investors. The founding investment team includes Chicago entrepreneurs Leslie Bluhm and David Helfand, Dennis Barsema, Nick Rosa, JB Pritzker, Matt McCall, Cary Chessick, Carol and Larry Levy and Wendy Abrams.

The addition of Mr. Templeton joining Impact Engine as the managing director adds to Impact Engine’s positive momentum in this fast growing sector of the global business environment. In conjunction with their new sponsor Leo Burnett, Impact Engine recently held their fifth Start Your Engines event, bringing together impact entrepreneurs for a program called “Applying Design Principles to Social Impact” that drew a crowd of 90+ members of the Chicago social innovation community. The Start Your Engine series is designed to grow the impact community by bringing together like-minded entrepreneurs and at the same time developing skills needed to build a successful organization.
