Produce management solution Afresh is launching a new pilot program with Michigan-based national grocery company, SpartanNash. The program will start with 10 Grand Rapids area Family Fare stores to test how Afresh's ordering tools and real time spoilage data platform can help reduce waste and make inventory management more efficient. In addition to running its own grocery chains under a variety of brand names in the midwest, SpartanNash is also a leading supplier to more than 2,000 independent grocers in 44 states.

The National Academy of Sciences featured a presentation by Carbon Direct's head of climate justice, Dr Christian Braneon on social vulnerability and infrastructure concerns under extreme climate change. Dr Braneon proposed approaching climate concerns in a broadly trans-disciplinary way, combining health data with environmental trends to build a better model of climate resiliency. "Right now we know that hospitalizations spike during extreme weather events like heat waves, but at the hospital we don't always code those diseases or illnesses as being associated with extreme heat. That data is hard to access," Braneon observed. "We need closer collaboration."

Food waste fighter Full Harvest announced it has acquired FarmersWeb, a farm sales and inventory management SaaS provider.  “Adding valuable software features from the FarmersWeb platform to our produce marketplace will help our farms sell their excess produce easier, more rapidly, and more efficiently than ever before," says Full Harvest founder and CEO Christine Moseley.
